start to get that sunshine in here as we head into saturday and sunday just in time for the weekend. let's get a check of the abc2 time saver traffic. i can't believe it's already november. >> i know. >> time is just flying biment unfortunately we are dealing with a lot of power outages across the state, so if you come to an intersection without a working traffic light treat it as a four way stop. it will be a nice easy ride to the beltway. if you are heading downtown this is what 95 looks like at 395 everything moving right along. no delays through the fort mchenry tunnel. 695 going to be in great shape, no delays from parkville to towson. it's going to take you 11 minutes to travel the outer loop from 95 to 83. and the west side going to be nice and clear, an 11 minute ride traveling that outer loop from 795 down towards 95. over to you. the skies over at bwi are

busy once again, thousands of flights were grounded earlier this week due to the storm. the airport is back up and running as normal. sandy caused thousands of flight cancellations to and from destinations along the east coast. laguardia will reopen this morning. it suffered major flooding from sandy and both runways will be open for business. travelers are being asked to contact the the airline. coming up, a man becomes a human hood ornament in a parking lot, this all over a fight for a parking spot. we'll tell you about the charges the driver faces. >> and a zombie expert giving tips on how to prepare for a zombie pandemic, he says it's going to happen so we'll hear what he has to say when we come back.

we have some health news for you this morning. a new study questions the use of drugs for pregnant women who may be experiencing symptoms of depression. this report looked at more than 100 studies on certain antidepressants, things like paxil, zoloft, lexapro, and they found that they increased the risk of miscarriage, early delivery and neurological problems in babies. pregnant women need to talk it to their doctor if they're taking antidepressants. how can you tell if your child has a cold or allergies. this time of year it's common for kids to have runny noses a cough or they're sneezing. they might also have a fever. if your child is sick for a few weeks and no one else in the home is getting sick, chances are it's allergies. and when in doubt parents should always talk to their pediatrician. we want to tell you about the pledge one hospital is asking their workers and community to sign. why they say it's about being

places to go so let's get right to weather and lynette charles. how's it looking out there? >> it's looking drier, but november 1st, happy birthday megan pringle. >> thank you very much. >> you're welcome. let's talk about what's going on right now on maryland's most powerful radar so we can get you out the door. and we do see a few light showers now around frederick county and also in carroll county. as we go throughout the day we should stay dry just like we did yesterday. not going to rule out a slight chance of a shower. just be prepared for that. also be prepared for some chilly temperatures this morning, and that will continue right into the afternoon once again and also breezy conditions, 45 degrees right now in nottingham, and we are looking at 43 degrees in elkton, the temperature in annapolis is at 43, and we are going to continue the ill as we go into lunchtime with that temperature coming in right around 52 degrees. let's get a check now of the abc2 time saver traffic. good morning, unfortunately we are still dealing with storm

damage. up in hartford county you want to be extra careful traveling in fall is to be where there's damage at friendship road and mayhem road at carsons run road and crescent ride at 543. if you are using 95 as we check in and take a look at 152, everytng moving right along. no delays as you travel towards white marsh. you'll notice the jfx going to be in great shape, just that typical 11 minute ride from the beltway down to fayette street. no delays from parkville to towson. no delays, normal drive times to travel that outer loop from 795 down towards 95. over to you. 2 minutes after 5, all new, help is on the way for our neighbors in new jersey who suffered a lot from this storm. abc2's linda so is here with how emergency responders in our state are helping out.

>> just 10 minutes ago an ambulance and suv and several emergency responders from baltimore left for new jersey, a second ambulance will be leaving any minute now. they ran into a problem when that ambulance wouldn't start. they're in the process of jump starting it right now. the crews are heading to atlantic county new jersey, an area devastated by the storm. we'll have new video for you of them leaving the public training safety center on northern parkway later in the newscast. we have a photographer there right now. ems crews arrived at around 4 this morning getting last minute supplies packed into the ambulances and the suv. they're on their way to flooded out areas in new jersey where homes are destroyed. they'll be joined by several other medics from maryland to help with the recovery. the medic units are stocked with bandages, back boards, splints and once they get to new jersey they'll be responding to 9-1-1 calls. the team that left here from baltimore will be making a quick stop in elkton to meet up with other units from maryland. then they'll be heading to new

jersey together. they're expected to get there at 9 this morning and to spend the next seven to ten days helping storm victims. 3 minute after 5 right now. when you were getting ready for sandy you may have picked up sandbags and now that the storm is over, you might not know what to do with them. the city has announced dropoff dropoff locations. you can bring them to the broadway pier or you can go to polly western high school parking lot. these locations will be open from 10 to 7 today and tomorrow. that's where they want you to drop off that sand. the lights are slowly coming back on in new york city. we want to take a live look at manhattan, not as bright as it normally is this time of day, but that larger section of the city they have power restored. this includes parts of lower manhattan including new york's financial district and battery park. they were hit very hard by flooding. the people that are still in the dark right now, they are trying to make the best of it, but it is tough as you can imagine. while they wait for the power

to return, many restaurants may have reopened anyway. >> we didn't want to disappoint people. why not, just do it you know. let's open the place and see what happens. so it's been fun so far. >> when everything went dark we all lit our candles and i looked in my window and i looked out and everybody in the skyscrapers around me, everybody was standing at their window looking out with their candle and it was actually really quite moving. >> the outages could last through the weekend for many people. five days until the election and question 6 is getting a-list support, brad pitt is giving $25,000 to the campaign. the donation is part of a $100,000 gift to the human rights campaign. it's a national organization that's promoting same sex marriage in all four states where it is on the ballot. along with u.s., maine, minnesota, and washington state have an initiative on the ballot regarding same sex marriage. if you want to vote on the issue, you can always go to the polling places ahead of

election day. early voting continues through tomorrow. sandy caused early voting to be canceled monday and tuesday, but friday was added as a voting day, and polling hours were extended. the polls will be open from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. today and tomorrow so you still have some time. and the question is do you need a big coat or a lighter coat. either way you're going to need one. i'd go for the big coat. >> i would too. >> let's talk about what's going on in the satellite and radar department this morning. let's start with the radar because we still do see some remnants of some wet weather, and all this is courtesy of sandy which is pulling away out into canada right now. still leaving snow in portions of pennsylvania is west virginia. this will be the trend throughout the day. the trend for us will be mainly cloud cover. we do see a few light showers, even sprinkles around carroll county and frederick county. this will continue through the afternoon. but today will be reminiscent

of yesterday. temperatures chilly, look at the 40s across the board. 43 psychsville, we're at 41 degrees in manchester and boston 44 degrees right now. annapolis 42, cambridge 44 and we have the temperatures but we're also dealing with the breezy conditions for today. these are your wind gusts, much different. we can see we won't be dealing with the real strong wind as we go throughout the day. let's get a check of the time saver traffic with lauren cook. if you are traveling on 95 no problems getting down to dc or if you are traveling north towards the tunnels fort mcreason are you in great shape and if you are using the jfx it's going to take you a typical 1 # minutes to travel southbound. as we check in and take a look

[ male announcer ] muller. the european for yummy. thanks for joining us this morning. more now on hurricane sandy and the path of destruction. entire streets in long island are wiped out and sherrie johnson joins us right now with what many people are dealing with in new york. these pictures are so sad. >> that's exactly right. heavy rain, strong winds, flash flooding and fires caused serious damage in some parts of new york. this morning people are still trying to regroup after that devastating stormment long lines of people searched for gas in the freeport community and long island new york.

right now there's a growing gas crisis there. the lines to get gas stretch for blocks and many people waiting in lines for hours to get gas. some drivers pull up to the pump on fumes. and days after sandy there was no gas because of power outages so many drivers were fast losing patience. >>driving around forever trying to find gas. >> i waited in line about 45 minutes. i get up here, and they only take cash,. >> oh, man. >> so that wait was for nothing. >> now, in the aftermath of sandy, hospitals in new york are struggling to stay open. in the height of the storm the nyu medical center had to be evacuated and this morning another hospital is closing its doors and moving patients. halloween is one holiday kids look forward to. however sandy put a damper on the plans for kids to get dressed up and go outside and collect candy at least in a few

states. the governor in new jersey postponed halloween because of the storms. many towns pushed back trick or treating until saturday, and some parents took their kids to local malls or to parade around in their costumes, but the kids say it's just not the same as going around the neighborhood. >> we found out we couldn't go to halloween. we were kind of like shoot. >> nobody has electricity. i don't think the door bells will work anyway. >> this is the second year halloween had to be delayed. last year it got postponed because of a snowstorm. i know in my neighborhood i saw a lot of little ninjas and ballerinas at my door. they just had to have a coat on. >> it did turn out pretty good around here. that's what you wait for, you wait for the candy. let's talk about what's going on today, this morning, on maryland's most powerful radar. we're picking up on a few showers, very light in nature. we can zoom in across the areas. remember yesterday, the same areas right around hagerstown

this morning, towards myersville as well. and as we slide further towards the east tommy town getting in on some action and more of the same in westminster. then you have to head to the we said west to get into mixed precipitation. roadways are going to be slick. and you're going to be seeing sleet and snow, rain, all that mixing in across that area. now look at those sandy rain total maps here. look at the pinks, the highest 10 or more inches you can see around the eastern shore, and then we can see some of those reds there. we're talking about 6 inches, 5 inches of rainfall. we really got some rain. it was much needed but we didn't need it all at once. also look at the snow that sandy brought as well, that combination of that big cold front moving through. look at red house maryland, 30 inches of snow snow all the way down to gatlinburg tennessee. 22 inches. that is a gauge of what

happened with sandy. today we're cold, 46 degrees in easton. we can see sandy pulling away. high pressure will begin to build in, we are going to be looking at drier times and more sunshine but here's a check of your planner for today. we will be breezy with that temperature at 52 degrees. good morning lynette. unfortunately we are dealing with storm damage in hartford county. if you are traveling in fall son be careful on friendship road also mayhem road at carson's run road going to be affected. if you are using 95 fortunately no problems from bel air to white marsh and once you get to the beltway you're looking at a 14-minute ride to downtown baltimore. as far as 695 is concerned, here's what it looks like in parkville at hartford road, everything moving along, no problems getting up towards towson and this is what 83

looks like north of 695, no problems driving all the way downtown. that is a look at your abc2 time saver traffic. megan over to you. thanks lauren. you've heard this just say no to drugs campaign and now there is an initiative started and it's being called say no to pop, or soda. a hospital in detroit michigan is asking their staff to sign a pledge for one month, the month of november that they will not drink soda. instead they're offering fruit infused water or bottled water. the president of the hospital compares drinking one can of soda a day to smoking cigarettes. >> drinking soda pop is directly linked to overweight and obesity. they're directly to the top cause of death in this country, mainly heart attacks, stroke and cancer. >> detroit public schools are signing the say no to pop pledge and they are offering no longer soda in their schools. you will find stacks of bottled water in the cafeteria instead. we saw a little bit of

thanks for joining us this morning, sandy not only displaced people who watched their homes get flooded and power go out she also forced people from their homes because of the snow. today governor o'malley is heading to the western part of the state to visit those who are staying in shelters in garrett county. they saw 2 to 3 feet of snow after sandy blew through and o'malley will also meet with the county's emergency manager in an incident with the management team just to make sure he is up to date on

everything. the governor spent his day yesterday on the other side of the state. he was touring the damage along the eastern shore. he visited people in chrisfield. they say this is the worst flooding they have seen since hurricane gloria in 1985. o'malley promised to send whatever resources they need to clean up and rebuild. >> we need help down herement i mean it's a lot of people that don't have a home to go to. the governor also toured damage in other places like prince ann and -- princess ann and ocean city. halloween is over and you still have all those bags of candy, so what do you do with that extra candy, some people say they have an idea. you can give it to lynette charles. she'll eat it. >> and a zombie invasion is inevitable. that's what one guy is saying, why we want to be prepared for the worst. >> so we have some light showers on maryland's most

and dry, what happened when smugglers tried to drive their beep over a border fence in arizona and got stuck. >> good morning, topping america's money, estimates now say the total cost of hurricane sandy could top $50 billion with about 30 billion of that in damaged and destroyed property, and the rest in lost business activity. sandy has sparked a rebuilding rally on wall street. shares of home depot, lowes and other home improvement stores were up. home depot was up more than 2%. airlines are scrambling in the wake of sandy trying to rebook as many as 2 million passengers after almost 20,000 flights were canceled because of the storm. most airlines are waiving rebooking fees. and forget seeing red, how about hearing red, taylor swift's new album has rocketed to the top of the billboard charreds selling 1.2 copies in its first week.
